INTRODUCTION

This era, from 1962 to 1975, was a turbulent time, both overseas and at home. Abroad, the Vietnam war was transpiring into one of the bloodiest and longest wars in American history. People in America began to wake up to the problems at home: racism, sexism, war, and oppression. They were disillusioned by these issues going around them and fought to end the war and give people equal rights. People saw the effects it had on the soldiers and the towns in Vietnam through the television. The Peace Movement inspired many citizens, especially young students, to protest America’s involvement in Vietnam. Problems on the home front, such as discrimination based on race and gender, were still prevelant across America. African Americans started the Civil Rights Movement to fight for their equal rights. Women faught for equally pay and more represntation in the work force. As the war for democracy continued, people began to fight for the things they felt was important. The era of the sixties and seventies was a cultural revolution, one that would alter the state of America for generations to come.
